The Sapwood is clearly defferentiated from the Heartwood and is white in color. The Heartwood varries greatly in color from salmon-pink to orange-brown and darkens to a russet red brown over time. Dark streaks and figured grain is often found.
Properties:
Brazilian Cherry has good steam bending properties, and is very hard, tough and strong. It can be difficult to work because of it's density and it has a moderate blunting effect on cutting edges, since the grain tends to be interlocked a reduced cutting angle is advised for a fine finish. It nails badly requiring preboring. It glues fairly well and is moderately easy to stain.
Seasoning:
It Dries moderately fast resulting in possible surface checking and warping. Slower drying can reduce these effects.
Durability:
It is very durable and resistant to termites.
